That’s why we will tell you how you can check the traffic to work and the traffic back to home so that you can plan your route ahead and keep your punctuality game on point.

What Is Google Map?

Google Maps is the most used web mapping platform or navigating app in the world in 2021. As more than 70% of global smartphone owners use this app at least once. Since 2007, Google Maps has included traffic information.

If you recall, traffic conditions were shown as a colored overlay on top of the streets in red, orange, and green. Today, Google Maps' 'Traffic Conditions' function has grown to provide even finer details on your route, such as crashed automobiles, construction signs, speed cameras, and so on.

As a result, in 2021, Google Maps is recognized as the most dependable route planning tool with real-time traffic congestion information at your fingertips, regardless of where you are or when you are traveling.

How To Check Traffic To Work Or Home On Google Maps?

We will check the steps to traffic monitoring in two-fold ways. We will start with how to check traffic on your phone first, and then we will move on to the traffic checking process from your computer as well.

Android/iPhone

Step 1: Open the Google Maps application.

Step 2: Tap the Commute symbol at the bottom of the home screen. In certain phones, the 'Commute' symbol is not available. Instead, look for the 'Go' symbol. When you find either of these buttons, press it.

Step 3: The 'To Work' or 'To Home' options are displayed in the top navigation bar of the screen. To move between these two alternatives, simply touch the top bar, depending on your destination.

You may now see the fastest route, other routes, projected travel times to work or home. You can also find out whether there are any traffic delays due to construction or accidents.

Laptop/Desktop

Step 1: Open your chrome browser, sign in to your Google Accounts, and go to Google Maps.

Step 2: On the left side of the screen, you’ll see the menu icon. Expand the option.

Step 3: You have to type your home or work address on the search bar. However, if your address is previously installed on the system, it will be displayed there, so you must select one of the two options.

Step 4: Now, select the starting location. It means, if you are heading towards the office, you will type the starting location like your home and vice versa.

Step 5: From the menu icon that you’ve expanded before, you will find the Traffic option. Click on that.

Step 6: Choose the Live Traffic option, and toggle your cursor to get real-time traffic updates.

Step 7: You can send the directions from your computer to your phone to get the navigation as you start driving. Just click on the Send Directions To Phone option, and you are all set.

Step 8: A pop-up will come, and you have to select the email option or the text option to receive the traffic notifications on your phone. Choose one of these, and check traffic to work or home anytime you want.

How To Optimize Traffic Details To Work Or Home?

If you don’t take the same route and the exact vehicle every day as you go to work and return home, you will need to optimize the Google Map details to get varied traffic updates. So follow these steps, and stay ahead in the traffic-beating game.

Step 1: On the bottom bar of the Google Maps screen, tap on the 'Commute' icon.

Step 2: On the top bar, click the More button.

Step 3: On the menu, choose the Commute Settings option.

Step 4: Then, choose your mode of transportation from the drop-down menu. You will find it in the 'How do you commute’ section.

Step 5: Update your regular arrival and departure times, as well as travel days.

Step 6: Don’t forget to update your normal workdays, as well as the start and end hours of your job, by tapping on the Commute times option. When you're done editing the details, tap Finished.

Step 7: Slide the bar to turn it on on the Get Commute Alerts option. If you provide all the details about your commute, you will receive notifications and more accurate travel information.
